Our Technology
We endeavour to keep up-to-date with the latest technology to provide you with the best possible eyecare.
Here are some of our pieces of equipment:
-
Retinal Imager: takes a wide-field photograph of the back of your eyes to help detect, or monitor, many eye conditions, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, or retinal conditions such as a detachment or retinopathy. We currently use the Optos which gives an advanced 270 degree view of the back of your eye.
-
Tonometer: blows small puffs of air into each eye to test the pressure of your eyes. High eye pressure can be a risk factor for glaucoma.
-
Auto-refractor: involves looking at an image that comes in and out of focus. This gives the optometrist an idea of the refractive error of your eyes.
-
Optical coherence tomography (OCT): takes a scan of the back of your eye to analyse it from a different angle. Allows monitoring of even the subtlest of changes in glaucoma and macular degeneration.
-
Visual Field (VF): a machine that tests your peripheral vision by using many lights. This test is used in association mainly with glaucoma.
-
Intense pulsed light (IPL): used to treat some varieties of dry eye syndrome. The treatment is given on 4 different occasions and stimulates better tear flow to reduce symptoms and maintain good eye health.
-
BlephEx: helps to clean your eyelashes, especially with conditions such as blepharitis. Helps to reduce the sensation of something in your eye, dry eyes and general irritation or risk of infection.
-
Topographer: tracks the shape of your cornea, at the front of your eye. Used for those who have keratoconus to monitor the changes in the shape of the front of your eye. This machine is also used in the advanced fitting of specialty contact lenses, including orthokeratology.
